The Batmobile Doesn’t Need an Oil Change, Dennis

My wife and I turned on the movie Sinners to ride the hype train.

Early on, there was a scene involving a CGI rattlesnake. The rendered reptilian was overwhelmingly agitated with no warning.

“That’s not how snakes work,” I wanted to say.

But, strong is my will, I refrained.

Because I had recently come across this quote from acclaimed comic book writer Grant Morrison:

“Adults…struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it’s not real.

“Kids understand that real crabs don’t sing like the ones in The Little Mermaid. But you give an adult fiction, and the adult starts asking really fucking dumb questions like `how does Superman fly? How do those eyebeams work? Who pumps the Batmobile’s tires?’

“It’s a fucking made-up story, you idiot! Nobody pumps the tires!”

And being a kid is more fun than being an adult.

PS: I don’t know who “Dennis” is. The headline demanded a sacrifice.
